Cooking Club

In March 2009 we started an after school cooking club as part of a national network of cooking clubs called Let’s Get Cooking. Their aim is to develop the cooking skills of children and their families so that they enjoy cooking good, healthy food. They are funded by the Big Lottery Fund and our school is given £2,500 spread over three years. This has enabled us to buy and replace cooking equipment and buy ingredients, so there is no cost for the pupils to attend the club. You can find out more about Let’s Get Cooking on their website www.letsgetcooking.org.uk Cooking Club
Cooking Club Our children have benefited hugely from this partnership, and continue to do so. The club is run by Miss Bennett and Mrs. Martin and is open to Key Stage Two children, focusing on one cohort at a time. So far 19 Year Five children and 8 Year 3/4 children have attended the after school club. It remains very popular and we have made a variety of different dishes, often inviting the children’s parents to share the food with us.

So far we have made:
  • Smoothies
  • Fruit salad
  • Muffins
  • Salmon dips
  • Vegetable pizza
  • Cheese & chive dip
  • Chinese stir fry
  • Scones
  • Fruit kebabs
  • Elderflower apple fizz
  • Cookies
  • Apple crumble

The children all get a copy of the recipes so they can make the dishes again at home with a little help from relatives. It’s always good to hear them talk about the cooking they have done at home in-between cooking club meetings and where possible the children help plan what the recipes we do together will be.

Key Stage One have benefited through Let’s Get Cooking events, such as our Healthy Eating Roadshow with an ExpoChef (who donated her time and expertise to us free of charge), The Big Cookathon and our Prince and Princess Banquet in Foundation. Take a look at our gallery to see some photographs.
